However, this also presents a different challenge when it comes to Microsoft Teams. Starting October 1, 2018, new Office 365 customers with 500 seats or less will be onboarded to Teams and will not have access to Skype for Business Online. A new Skype for Business server will be available in the second half of 2018 for customers not ready to move to Teams, but Microsoft is pushing Office 365 users will to move over to Teams as the key communications client instead of relying on Skype for Business. There will be increasing pressure on organizations toward that end.

Skype for Business Server 2019 was released in October 2018. Despite the variety of misconceptions, the reality is that both Teams and Skype for Business will continue to offer businesses a valuable communications solution, with benefits, flaws and alternatives for each. One of the big attractions of the cloud is flexibility and ease.

These policies can be assigned to individual users. Interestingly, this also allows to control media ports that used for Peer to Peer calls for QoS purpose. For Teams Upgrade, Org-wide settings will be effected only if there individual user configuration is set to use Org-Wide settings by default is is. Not sure how long it will remain there. Like the on-premises deployment, this one also need to be configured with Building data to have an overall view of call quality information. It is under Preview still and hopefully Microsoft will release this in to production within upcoming months. There are lot still missing ex, Enterprise Voice related components, Dial-In conferencing from this tool that requires Powershell or legacy Admin Center to configure. Your organization's journey from Skype for Business to Teams can be defined by you. So what exactly is Microsoft Teams? We recognize that customers are using Skype for Business on-premises and many need to continue to use Skype for Business on-premises for some users or geographies due to their requirements. Phone support in Teams isn't nearly ready for prime time, some say. This will help ensure they have a positive upgrade experience and help alleviate calls to your helpdesk. Should you wish to do so, Microsoft Teams will likely become an option from your third party supplier, providing the functionality is indeed found to be improved from that of Skype, and better than the features already provided by the third party. Microsoft recommend all Office 365 customers start using Teams either alongside Skype for Business or separately. As illustrated below, a successful upgrade begins by bringing the right team together in the Project Stakeholder stage and then moving to Project Definition where the scope, goals, and timeline are solidified. The truth behind the story is this.
